The Master’s of Theology in Christian Ethics and Leadership
Welcome to the Master’s Program of Theology in Christian Ethics and Leadership, September 2020 intake. We believe that theology is more than an academic program; it is a way to serve the church and society at large. Today, more than ever before, pastoral ministry, public service, administration and leadership require experts equipped with enough competence and intelligence, to be able to steer a holistic and sustainable development for our institutions and communities. We hope that the Master’s of Theology in Christian Ethics and Leadership will respond to this need. Individuals who are eager for knowledge and good practices will find in this program an inspiration and a true support in their studies, as well as in their personal and professional growth. This program addresses crucial concerns whole national, regional and international scope is indubitable.
Nowadays individuals, families, churches and human societies in general are facing complex ethical issues compounded by the realities of a globalized world. There are problems related to corruption, violence, sexuality, drag abuse, diseases, human trafficking, radicalism and the like. In addition, communities and institutions are facing conflicts, failure and lack of credibility which can be interpreted as the result of a crisis of leadership. One observes the problems of mismanagement, abuse of power and misuse of resources as well as a lack of accountability and mechanisms which promote inclusiveness and equity. The Protestant Institute is therefore delighted to offer a possibility for candidates to pursue a Master’s Program of Theology in Christian Ethics and Leadership, an interdisciplinary framework where the above mentioned challenges of ethics and leadership can be reflected on to set in motion viable communities and institutions where the processes of justice, reconciliation, forgiveness and peace building are ingrained in a Christian perspective.
The program allows students – women and men called to ordained or non-ordained positions – to engage with the rich tradition of Christian moral thought with the aim to understand and contribute to contemporary debates pertaining to ethics, values and good governance in Church and society and at the same time equip students for innovative pastoral ministry and human action. It is our hope that the graduates of this program will have acquired academic and professional knowledge as well as practical skills in Christian Ethics and Leadership which enable them to establish in Churches and in society the principles and processes of good governance inspired by Christian values. Moreover, our graduates will have been prepared to conduct research in their area of specialization and provide recommendations to solve related problems in an innovative way.
The Master’s Program of Theology in Christian Ethics and Leadership complies with the requirements of the Rwandan Higher Education Council and is fully accredited by the Ministry of Education. It counts 180 credits to be completed in two years divided into four semesters.
The program functions with two intakes: September and March
Graduates will be eligible for positions of pastors or preachers within their respective Protestant denominations. Other graduates will easily secure teaching posts at different levels thanks to their acquired communication skills (both oral and written), patience, and adaptability. There is no doubt that many graduates from this program will fit for positions of Chief Executive Directors or Human Resources Directors, and other leadership positions both in religious and secular organizations.
