Induction week at PUR and the Integration of New Students to Itorero, 22th-22nd October 2017
 
The kickoff of the new academic year 2017-2018 at the Protestant University of Rwanda took place from 26 up 28 October 2017. The Devotion opening the ceremony was done by Rev Juvenal Rwamunyana, chaplain and Dean of the Students. Meditating out of Psalm 122, Rev Rwamunyana developed the benefit of coming  together of churches that funded the Protestant University of Rwanda, through the unification of their efforts. The same effort he recommended for PUR academic community, ancient  and new students, academic  and administrative staff to cooperate and to share in duties, responsibilities but also resources; to share ideas and knowledge; to spend time sharing unto work in groups  so as to grow , expand and flourish in blessings. Without cooperation, he said, there is no progress; but cooperation is only possible when love prevails.

Alternatives to Violence Program

The Alternatives to Violence Program (AVP) conducted the second Basic Workshop this year, with 18 participants June 09 – 11, 2017 and the second Advanced Workshop this year August 16-18, 2017, with 11 participants, at PIASS Huye, bringing together mixed groups of students, graduates of PIASS and staff from NGOs.

After a short eclipse, PIASS Newsletter emerges with a new identity, as the information organ of an Institution that transmuted from Protestant Institute to Protestant University [PUR].  The move was reached at following the decision of the founding members’ General Assembly. The new legal status granting the Legal Personality Nᵒ102/ RGB/RBO/2017 was issued by the Rwanda Governance Board [RGB] on 29/03/2017 and published in the Official Gazette of Rwanda, Official Gazette no19 of 08/05/2017, p. 93. We thank God for this move that marked huge progress that was accomplished by our institution in the last six years.

Trauma First Aid Training

Student Mental Health Advisors took Trauma First Aid Training ahead of PIASS Genocide Commemoration.
In light of experiences from past events of Commemoration of the 1994 Genocide in Rwanda where it was challenging to see persons in emotional crisis, the Peace Club of PIASS, in collaboration with CRASPD, held a Trauma First Aid Training for members of the Peace Club and students who are members of other students’ clubs ahead of the 2017 Commemoration period.
